What makes branded workwear different from t-shirt or event printing
Branding workwear and printing an event tee look like the same job and are not. An event tee is worn a handful of times, printed for colour and photographed. A coverall or a hi-vis vest is issued to a worker, dragged across a site, and washed at high temperature several times a week for a year or more. The branding has to survive that, and on safety garments it also has to stay compliant with the standard the garment is certified to. That is why we treat workwear printing as its own service, matched to fabric, wash cycle and safety class, rather than a finish chosen from a catalogue. Choosing a branding method for coveralls and industrial uniforms
Two facts decide the method before budget ever does: what the garment is made of, and what it has to endure. Heavy cotton and poly cotton coveralls take industrial screen printing well, which is why a large back logo in one or two colours is cheapest and most durable that way. Mixed fabric fleets, names, numbers and employee identifiers suit heat applied transfers, because each garment can carry different text without a new setup. A logo on the chest of a corporate shirt worn to client meetings often reads better as embroidery, which is covered on our embroidery service. We specify the method against the garment, and treat coverall printing and bulk uniform printing as a durability decision rather than a catalogue choice.
Printing on flame resistant (FR) coveralls without voiding the rating
This is the mistake that costs the most and the one almost no supplier warns about. A flame resistant coverall is certified as a whole system to EN ISO 11612. A standard plastisol print or an ordinary vinyl transfer melts, drips or ignites, and applying it to the shell can compromise the certification the garment was bought for. The garment can pass a visual check and still fail an audit or, worse, fail on the job. We mark FR garments with FR rated transfer film, a sewn FR label, or reflective tape rated for the same standard, and we keep the branding clear of the areas that carry the protection. If your specification names EN ISO 11612 or an oil and gas client standard, send it, and we brand to it rather than supplying a lookalike.
Hi-vis branding and EN ISO 20471: where a logo can and cannot go
Hi-vis is graded by surface area, not by how bright it looks. EN ISO 20471 sets a minimum area of fluorescent background material and a minimum area of retro reflective tape for each class. A logo or a transfer placed over that background or across the tape reduces the certified area, and enough of it can drop a Class 3 garment below Class 3. That is a compliance failure, not a cosmetic one, and it fails site induction. With hi-vis printing we lay out branding so the mandated areas stay intact, keep prints off the reflective bands, and confirm the class the garment must hold before we position anything. Send the induction requirement and we brand against it.
Will the print survive industrial laundry
Most printed workwear ends up somewhere hotter than a home machine. A contract or site laundry runs at high temperature with alkaline chemistry, and that environment is far harder on a surface bonded print than on a home wash. A cheap transfer lifts at the edges, a badly cured screen print cracks, and the garment looks finished long before the cloth is worn out. We cure at controlled temperature, hold a colour fastness floor tested to ISO 105-C06, and choose inks and films rated for repeated hot washing. If the garment is going into an industrial cycle, say so at briefing stage, because it changes the recommendation. Reflective, name tapes and employee identifiers for fleets
Fleet workwear needs more than a chest logo. Site roles are colour coded, workers need names and identifiers, and safety text and reflective placement follow a site rule rather than a preference. We apply reflective tape and reflective transfer to hi-vis specifications, add employee names, departments and identifiers by heat transfer so each garment is unique without a new screen, and produce woven and printed labels with bilingual Arabic and English sizing and care text where a workforce needs it. This is the part of uniform printing that catalogue printers skip, and it is usually what a procurement team is actually asking for.
Reorders: keeping batch five matching batch one
Almost every problem we are called in to fix is a reorder problem, not a first order problem. A new worker joins in month eight, gets a garment branded from artwork rebuilt from scratch, and stands next to a colleague whose logo is a slightly different size in a slightly different shade. Nobody can say exactly what is wrong, but everyone can see that something is. The fix is administrative and costs nothing: we hold the artwork file, the print positions, the sizes and the colour references against your account, and match a reorder to that record rather than interpreting it afresh. Ask any printer whether they store your file or rebuild it each time. The answer tells you what your third order will look like.
